On 18 January 2013, Maison Martin Margiela presented the new menswear Fall/Winter 2013/14 with a fashion runway show during Paris Men's Fashion Week.
'A Study in Movement' is one of the themes of the new collection by the Paris based design team of Maison Martin Margiela (the fashion house belongs to Renzo Rosso's Diesel Group). Maison Martin Margiela is known for experimental/art approaches to the construction of clothing patterns.
fig. right: One of the highlights of the collection is the grey-brown-black pullover which looks as if it is made from parts of recycled knitwear pieces. Maison Martin Margiela's pullover construction awakens associations with Cubism (and its signature visualization of the documentation of movement and/or the inclusion of various perspectives) and Cybernetics in the meaning of self-referencing and (self-learning) feedback systems (such as the pullover as derivation from existing pullovers). Inspired by Gertrude Stein's repetitive 'cubistic' writing, this item could be described as 'pullover is a pullover is a pullover is a pullover'.
