Nomadism, sport, and technology
On 12 February 2012, Y-3 presented the new Fall/Winter 2012/13 men's and women's collection inspired by the culture of nomadism, sport and technology during New York Fashion Week.
The nomadic way of life with all the facets from protection over wilderness, brutality, to survival and nobility, nature, outdoor - especially trekking through the steppes of Central Asia influenced the design of the Y-3 pieces for next fall/winter.
"There is poetry and elegance to the way nomads dress. I want to capture that feeling and make it modern." says Yohji Yamamoto.
The image of the Western wanderers who visited the region in the past is translated by the Japanese designer of the collaborative label Y-3 (Y for Yohji, 3 for the three stripes of adidas) into fashion with futuristic sport vision.
Find out more about the collection which combines high-technology (like a breakthrough W-181 heat-trapping fabric once used by NASA) with ethnic clothing (such as Ikat patterns running along the hem of a jacket), presents jackets in leopard printed material, wool coats... on the catwalk video (music from the Black Keys).
