RICK OWENS
fall/winter 2011/12
Thrill, danger, superhero
On 20 January 2011, US designer Rick Owens presented the new FW2011/12 men's wear collection during Paris Fashion Week.
Rick Owens (born 1962) studied at Parsons in New York and moved in 2003 from California to Paris. He launched the men's wear line in 2006. His fashion can be described as gender-crossing, glam, grunge. For FW2011/12, the androgynous models appear in leather skirts over leather trousers, dress-alike tops over heavy boots... in pieces that are common but originate from different times and both sexes.
This year, Rick Owens brought a touch of 'danger' to the catwalk. Adam Tschorn reports for LATimes.com about a "dangerous-looking duffle coat" he had seen at the Rick Owens show of armor-alike pieces and that the theme 'Superhero' seems to be in general in fashion in Paris.
Tim Blanks for Style.com associates the skirts with the clothing of ancient Egypt, priests, samurais and Scottish soldiers.
